UNTENU: transgender Battambang

Since January we work with a new coördinator and a new network of volunteers in Cambodia. The transition took some preparation and time off course. Last week we received request for help from a transgender living with HIV in Battambang province. She appeared to have no money for transport to the hospital. Result: she had stopped taking HAART and became ill.

Through the network urgent money was deployed to the province for first medical aid and food supplies. Now we will examine how this can be prevented in the future. Meanwhile, her health approved.

Preparations new projects

As mentioned above it takes time to prepare new projects carefully. Volunteers in Cambodia are preraring a few projects now. One is writing a plan to improve the long term living conditions of a group of three lesbians living with HIV. Untenu will support this plan financially if the plan includes ways for them to provide for their own livelihood in the future.

A likewise plan Untenu would like to support is to improve the living conditions of three transgenders in Sihanoukville. First priority is to convince them to undergo an HIV test. That is not easy, but given their background as a sex worker it is necessary. Only then can be viewed whether they are eligible for assistance and guidance by Untenu.

Benefit Event Den Bosch (Holland)

The benefit event for Unten will be held om Sunday, May 17 from 3 PM in Café de Gouwe Sleutel in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. There will be a perfomance of the drag queens “Meander & Bijoux” and a lottery will be held in favor of projects of Untenu.
