The first request for relief in the new decade was for a 27-year-old drag queen from Kampong Chhnang who worked in the capital Phnom Penh. He stopped working after he was also infected with tuberculosis (TB).
HIV, TB, gastroenteritis
The now 27 years old left for the capital Phnom Penh at the age of 15 to perform in gay bars. He has known for six years that he is HIV positive. When he felt better he decided to stop taking HIV medication.
A practice that we unfortunately encounter more often in Cambodia.
As a result he became more susceptible to other deseases and so he got infected with TB. Lately we have seen more emergency cases of people living with HIV/AIDS and TB. This man also suffered from gastroenteritis.
Volunteers from our partner organizations took care for him and with money from Untenu Foundation he now gets the right medical treatment.
We will continue to help in 2020
For € 135 ($ 150) we provided hospital care, food aid and extra medication.
