A transgender woman from Phnom Penh was so ill that she was rushed to the hospital. Deceased mother, disowned by her father, homeless. An HIV test made clear what was wrong: HIV positive.
But no shelter, no more work and so sick that she could not walk independently. Fortunately volunteers in Cambodia found her and brought to the hospital and filed an emergency aid request to Untenu. And fortunately Untenu can sometimes respond quickly.
We have transferred money yesterday to pay hospital costs and to buy food for her. Our volunteers of CamASEAN will take care for her and report us the progress made.
Let us hope that we brought her to the hospital on time, and that she can get anti-retroviral drugs soon so she can get better soon and start a new life.
HIV testing helps!
Regular testing on HIV helps, much misery can be avoided. Certainly people who are most at risk – anywhere in the world – should have regular HIV testing. Someone who is infected with the HIV virus but is on anti-retroviral drugs is hardly infectious and stays healthy longer.
