O. – a trans woman living with HIV – went to Sihanoukville for her relationship and to find work. Because of this she wanted to hide her HIV status and stopped taking HIV inhibitors.
Rosa was very ill. The application for emergency aid by Untenu stated: she hid her HIV status and therefore did not take HIV medication. Two weeks later She passed away.
After a break – due to lack of money – Untenu has resumed emergency aid to HIV-positive LGBTI people living in poverty in Cambodia.
Thanks to recent fundraising campaigns, the Untenu Foundation has managed to raise enough money to start a make-up training course for underprivileged LGBTI people with HIV in Battambang, Cambodia. The course will start during the Cambodian rainy season.
Covid-19 is affecting LGBTI’s living with HIV in Cambodia. People loose their jobs. No income, no savings and no social security provisions makes people extremely vulnerable in this corona crisis.
Chenla is a 50-year-old gay man living with HIV. He scours the streets of Phnom Penh in search of reusable waste. Untenu would like to fundraise a cargo bike so that he can increase his range and his income.
Poverty & HIV; it has a face: that of K. from Battambang. If working in the factory does not yield enough income for his family, he will work in the entertainment business in Bangkok. (updated March 11, 2020)

To our great sadness we learned today that this afternoon K. deceased in the house of his uncle. His mother could not pay the medical costs and took him to his uncle’s home.

Friday January 6, Untenu Foundation organizes in cooperation with CinemAsia a program with 3 short documentaries about HIV-positive LGBTIQs in Cambodia – the Kingdom of Wonders.
The first request for relief in the new decade was for a 27-year-old drag queen from Kampong Chhnang who worked in the capital Phnom Penh. He stopped working after he was also infected with tuberculosis (TB).
This week we helped a 42-year-old tuktuk driver who needed urgently hospitalization because he was seriously ill with TB.
