For the third year in a row, Untenu Foundation – together with the Mara Foundation and the Humanitas Foundation – is organizing AIDS Candlelight Memorial. An afternoon whith commemoration, reflection and singing together. On Sunday, May 20, everyone is welcome from 3 pm on the Pieter De Hoochweg 110 in Rotterdam. The entrance is free, as well as the food and drinks.
Fund raising for Untenu Foundation in December: Willems-Koop Fund allocated money for Untenu’s overhead costs and a fund raising activity in a Mennonites church during a LGBT Advent service. The ambassadors of Untenu raised money with a performance on World Aids Day. (video)
At Rotterdam Pride, Untenu Foundation has collected €500 for LGBTI with HIV who are living in Cambodia in poor circumstances. This helps Untenu support more LGBTI with emergency assistance and education. The amount that we collected has been raised by our hairdresser Ferdi and by selling hand woven rainbow scarves from Cambodia and by donations.
Due to a better spread of volunteers in Cambodia, emergency aid costs to poor LGBTIs with HIV are rising. First, there are more requests. In addition, the spread over the regions is better and more people are reached in remote areas. Corruption also plays a part.
Untenu Foundation is involved in Cambodia’s LGBTI community, specially those who are living with HIV. The L in LGBTI is an underexposed group. Lesbian women have the least risk of being infected with HIV in most countries. In Cambodia however, that is different. Yesterday Untenu helped an HIV-positive lesbian woman in the coastal town of Sihanoukville.
