Trans Women provided aid in Siem Reap

Posted on 05.27.16 by Ron van Zeeland

In Siem Reap (known from World Heritage site Angkor Wat) Untenu Foundation provided two transgender women living with HIV, with money for nutrition, doctors visit and medication. Local volunteers of the BC carried out the operation.

The transgenders women survived on a daily income of about $1,-, which they earned by collecting recyclable rubbish from the street and from peoples houses.

Both had injected subcutaneously sandalwood oil in face and chest in order to get more round and feminine shapes. It does not work, on the contrary: it has terrible side effects such as swollen faces. A combination of lack of money for treatments that are available to transgender people in richer countries, and their ignorance of the consequences of such dangerous practices leading to situations like this.

The whole process of application of the aid to the implementation costed no longer then 4 days. For Untenu Foundation it was the first time to cooperate with the BC. BC has reported back well and quickly with receipts and photos.

BC (Bandanh Chaktomok, named after the site where the group once got together in Phnom Penh), is the informal name for the National MSM and TG Network Cambodia. The BC has a large network in Cambodia and and is committed to improving the position of MSM (men having sex with men) en transgenders (mainly male to female transgenders). For Untenu the BC is comitted to work for all LGBTs living with HIV in Cambodia. Including female to male transgenders and lesbians.
