Untenu raises €606,- at World AIDS Day

Posted on 12.04.16 by Ron van Zeeland

Untenu Foundation took part in the organization of World AIDS Day Rotterdam for the second time. A joint venture between local organizations involved in HIV & AIDS. Untenu also organized some activities and raised a nice amount of donations for emergency aid for LGBTs living with HIV in Cambodia.

Drag Show In Gay Sauna

Untenu’s ambassadors Zarah Meander & Sheilla Bijoux performed together with “doctor” Jörgen of Poz & Proud in gay sauna in Finland with a custom program for World AIDS Day. There were many questions from the audience n.a.v. their songs Take Me (the STD song) and PrEP!. Propaganda versus condom condom-less prevention. Now Jörgen be just as a doctor if Meander & Bijoux ladies, but it was the idea: provide information about HIV, STDs and how to prevent e.e.a..

And the combination worked well, the lighter work came from the ‘ladies’ and medical questions were passed on to Jörgen and that went fine and was fun too. Public showed up all the way from Wageningen and Amsterdam, especially for this event.

World AIDS Day Rotterdam

Volunteers of Untenu Foundation were also present during the public activity in the center of Rotterdam. Several organizations shared information with goody bags and information. Untenu Foundation brought her postcards and was visible for the first time during World AIDS Day Rotterdam. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) was present with a test bus, where shoppers could get tested for HIV. 48 people took advantage of this, no one turned out HIV positive.

Volunteers Ferdi en Greet prepare a Cambodian meal for the HIV Dinner

The closing event of World AIDS Day Rotterdam: the HIV dinner, this time with a Cambodian menu with a soup, Fish Amok (Cambodian curry), Buck Lahong (papaya salad) and for dessert a delicious pandan cake.

Everything worked inside in record time of two hours by a large group of people who afterwards were yet to see the documentary “Karma?”. A poignant picture of the group of people Untenu Foundation for deployment. The documentary film is always good for questions from the audience.

Donations

After this eventful eight days we look back at a beautiful week of activities in the context of HIV and AIDS. And Untenu Foundation raised the magic amount of € 606.06 (USD 646.46). With this money our volunteers in Cambodia can again provide emergency aid for a number of LGBT living with HIV.

Thanks to the generous donors and to all who contributed to World AIDS Day Rotterdam and made it a beautiful event!
