Untenu wants to improve the prospects of HIV positive LGBTIs. Especially those who have no money for education often end up in the world of the ‘entertainment business’. In Cambodia, this is a euphemism used for the sex industry. Prostitution is forbidden and because of this it is often dangerous work.
Police regularly ‘cleans’ the public places where sex workers solicit for clients. The sex workers are taken to prison and are often abused by police officers. Rape occurs both by police as by customers. Transgender often suffer the most.
Older sex workers see their clientele decline and therefore their income. Sex work requires a lot of a human being let alone if your health is not optimal.
For the group HIV positive youth without job perspective, as well as provide for the aging HIV-positive sex workers, Untenu would like to offer more perspective. This is done through vocational training and courses. As a result one is able to provide a less dangerous way of living.
